HELP WANTED...MULTIPLE POSITIONS AT HOLDEN ARBORETUM
The Holden Arboretum is one of the largest arboreta in the United States, with one of the world’s most diverse collection of woody plants. Established in 1931 on 100 acres of land, Holden now manages 3,600 acres in Lake and Geauga counties, with 3,000 acres of natural areas and 600 acres of woody plant collections and display gardens containing more than 2,000 species of trees and other plants.

Horticulturist III – Full-time
Experienced horticulturist to take responsibility for one of our four, themed gardens using sound horticultural principles to create sustainable landscapes and ensuring plants are grown and cared for under optimal conditions to support their hardiness and longevity.
Must have a minimum of five (5) years experience in garden management and/or professional horticulture utilizing sustainable techniques, and be able to identify and treat pests and plant diseases. A strong knowledge of woody and herbaceous plants with an emphasis on regionally native plants and shade gardens is expected. A Bachelor’s degree in horticulture, botany, or similar degree is preferred.
Horticulture Nursery Worker – Seasonal
Worker to perform propagation, plant care and monitoring of nursery stock and assist the nursery staff in all aspects of greenhouse and nursery plant care. We plan to staff this position in mid-April for a period of six (6) to seven (7) months. Basic greenhouse and nursery skills are required and must be available to do weekend watering. $8.00/hr.
Horticulture Workers/Gardeners - Seasonal
Workers to perform hands-on work in our gardens and natural areas beginning in April and May for a period of five (5) to six (6) months. This position involves planting and maintaining a variety of woody and herbaceous plants, pruning, deadheading, weeding, mulching, planting, transplanting, dividing perennials, watering, fertilizing, hauling brush, mowing, raking, pest control, installing and removing deer fencing and the use of deer repellent; and the use of herbicides to control invasive plants. $8.00/hr.
Horticulture Internship
An internship opportunity exists for the period April through September, 2010 to gain experience performing various gardening responsibilities such as planting, transplanting, dividing, and maintaining a variety of woody and herbaceous plants. Pruning, deadheading, weeding, mulching, watering, fertilizing, and pest control are but a few of the other activities an intern may perform. To qualify for a Horticulture Internship, you must be majoring in Horticulture or a related field of study in an accredited, two or four-year college program. Recent graduates of such programs who are looking for hands-on work experience may also be considered. $9.00/hour
A valid driver’s license with an approved driving record is required for all positions.

HELP WANTED…NURSERY MANAGER
Hosmer Nursery & Tree Farm is currently seeking a Nursery Manager. This is an opportunity for growth and development. We work with and support Ted Hosmer Lawn & Landscape as well as Hosmer Snow Removal.
You will be responsible for the retail / wholesale operations and organizational structure of the nursery.
We are seeking professional, responsible, hard working, energetic people with excellent communication and customer service skills. You must be self motivated, a leader and knowledgeable in all aspects of the landscape industry.
Minimum of 5 years of experience, preferably with a landscape/ horticultural diploma or degree and are a NYSNLA Certified Nursery & Landscape Professional.
